Motorola Edge 70 Max review: Record-breaking battery and flagship power at an affordable price
Motorola has introduced a true flagship killer in its lineup: the Motorola Edge 70 Max. This device is unapologetically built around massive battery life without sacrificing premium design or high-end performance. It can compete with much more expensive smartphones and even outperforms them in specific areas, such as endurance. However, this accessibility comes with several technical trade-offs.
Unmatched Battery Endurance
The standout feature of the Motorola Edge 70 Max is its massive 7100 mAh silicon-carbon battery. In our real-world Wi-Fi web surfing tests, the device lasted an impressive 27 hours and 57 minutes. This longevity easily covers two full days of use, placing it ahead of many competitors, including top-tier models from Apple and Samsung.
Despite the huge capacity, the phone remains sleek and doesn't feel bulky. The chassis is constructed from aircraft-grade aluminum and carries IP68 and IP69 certifications, ensuring protection against dust and water immersion. The device is available in three elegant colors: Aqua Gray, Ice Melt, and Dark Shadow.
Performance and Display Quality
Under the hood, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 powers the device. While not the absolute latest flagship SoC from Qualcomm, it provides plenty of power for demanding tasks and smooth daily operation. The Adreno 829 GPU, paired with fast UFS 4.1 storage, ensures rapid app loading and responsive gaming performance.

The display is a bright 6.82-inch AMOLED panel with a 144 Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels. With peak brightness exceeding 1300 nits, it remains highly legible even under direct sunlight. However, users should be aware of the 167 Hz PWM flickering, which may cause eye strain for those sensitive to Pulse-Width Modulation.
Compromises and Drawbacks
The Motorola Edge 70 Max is not without its flaws. A significant limitation is the storage: the European version offers only 256 GB with no possibility for expansion via microSD, which may prove insufficient for heavy photo and video users. Additionally, the device uses a relatively slow USB 2.0 port that lacks wired video output support.

The camera system also sees some cuts. While the 50 MP Sony Lytia 710 main sensor takes sharp photos in good lighting, the ultra-wide-angle lens lacks detail, and there is no optical zoom. Other notable downsides include significant heat buildup under heavy loads and the use of Gorilla Glass 7i, which is less durable than its predecessors.
Software support remains a point of contention. Although Motorola has clarified that the device will receive five years of security updates and three major Android version upgrades, the company has a history of inconsistent update cycles. The device ships with Android 16 pre-installed.
Verdict
The Motorola Edge 70 Max is an ideal choice for users who prioritize extreme battery life and fast connectivity (thanks to Wi-Fi 7) but are willing to compromise on camera versatility and storage capacity. It is a powerful, stylish, and incredibly durable device that offers high-end specs at a much more accessible price point than its premium rivals.
