Monster Hunter Wilds: Title Update 3 Review — The Game's Biggest Update Yet
Three months after launch, Monster Hunter Wilds remains one of the most popular games of 2025. Title Update 3, released May 19, 2026, adds so much content that new players can jump in right now.
Title Update 3 is exactly what endgame fans asked for. A proper roguelite mode with co-op and unique rewards.
New Monsters: Xenotera and Abyssal Rath
The headline stars of TU3 are two Elder Dragons. Xenotera is a spider-like Elder Dragon that weaves the arena with light-thread webs. Fighting it demands constant movement and attention to phase shifts: each time it repositions, part of the arena becomes inaccessible or fills with traps. It's among the most complex hunts in the series.
Abyssal Rath is a more traditional but no less spectacular Elder Dragon. Its unique mechanic — 'absorbing' monsters from the surrounding biome — means it gains new attacks and changes form as the fight progresses. Long, but never overstays its welcome.
New Biome: Darkroot Mire
TU3 adds a fifth biome — the Darkroot Mire. This ominous forest-swamp region has a unique monster ecosystem, dark lighting, and a 'rot gas' mechanic that limits visibility in certain zones. Visually superb and atmospherically reminiscent of some Monster Hunter World regions.
The biome comes with 14 new small monsters and 3 mid-tier monsters, in addition to the two Elders. This significantly enriches the open-world ecology of Wilds.
Hunt of No Return
The main draw for veterans is the 'Hunt of No Return' mode. This is a roguelite challenge where hunters run a chain of fights with randomized modifiers, with no option to return to camp. Failure resets the series progress; success unlocks unique cosmetics and titles.
The mode supports 4-player co-op and features a 'curse' system — accumulating negative effects that make each subsequent fight harder. This is exactly what endgame fans have been asking for.
Verdict
Title Update 3 is the best update Wilds has received. Two mechanically unique Elder Dragons, a visually striking new biome, and a proper endgame mode at last make the game far more complete than at launch.
If you left Wilds after the story campaign, TU3 is your reason to return. If you haven't tried the game yet — now is the ideal time to start.
