Microsoft releases emergency Windows 11 update to fix critical bugs
Microsoft has released an out-of-band (OOB) update, KB5129195, for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. This emergency patch aims to address several bugs introduced during the September update cycle, specifically targeting issues with Remote Desktop services and virtual Linux environments.

The update focuses on resolving two primary issues. First, it addresses bugs in the Remote Desktop service that previously caused login failures or connection drops. Second, it fixes issues within Linux virtual machines running on Hyper-V via the Plan9 protocol. This affects tools such as Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and Claude Cowork, which experienced errors when attempting to share host folders.
In addition to these functional fixes, the patch addresses security vulnerability CVE-2026-62721 within the Windows User-Mode Power Service (UMPS), which could allow local attackers to escalate their privileges.
