Microsoft claims Windows 11 is now up to 20% more responsive
Microsoft has announced several improvements for Windows 11 aimed at boosting system performance. The company claims the OS is now up to 20% more responsive and consumes less RAM. These enhancements are intended to be felt during boot-up and across various components, including the Start menu, File Explorer, Search, Snipping Tool, Microsoft 365, and Edge.
Memory Optimizations and Speed
The performance boost is driven by two primary memory-related optimizations. First, the system will keep up to 2 GB of active data in the RAM instead of moving it to slower storage, which should improve multitasking responsiveness. Second, background memory usage is being reduced; for instance, Widgets now load only when opened, saving over 200 MB of memory—a significant benefit for machines with 8 GB of RAM.
In addition to these tweaks, Microsoft has improved Windows Hello, making facial and fingerprint recognition faster and more reliable. Gamers may also benefit from Advanced Shader Delivery, a feature designed to reduce initial loading times in supported titles.
Availability
These updates are included in the transition from Windows 11 build 26200.7628 to 26300.9550, though actual performance gains may vary depending on the hardware. The rollout will be gradual, but users can access these features early by enrolling in the Windows Insider program.
