Mewtwo strikes back on new Sandisk Pokémon SSD
Sandisk has launched a pair of Pokémon-themed solid-state storage products to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary. The lineup features the Mewtwo and Mew, transforming everyday drives into functional collectibles for fans.
The Mewtwo Portable SSD
The flagship model is the Sandisk Pokémon Portable SSD Mewtwo Edition. It connects via a 10Gb USB 3.2 Gen2 interface, with Sandisk claiming read speeds of up to 1,000MB/s. While this trails behind the 14,900MB/s speeds of the high-end Sandisk Optimus range, it is still nearly twice as fast as a standard 2.5in SATA drive and sufficient for portable storage needs.
The device is designed to withstand a 2m drop, making it durable for on-the-go use. It is available in 500GB and 1TB capacities. Given the current escalation in NAND prices and the premium for Pokémon branding, pricing is steep; Amazon currently lists the 1TB version at $229.99.
The Mew USB Flash Drive
Accompanying the SSD is a smaller USB-C flash drive featuring Mew. Sandisk describes this dinky drive as being "influenced by the lightness and finesse of Mew." It offers up to 128GB of flash memory, suitable for pocket storage.
Amazon currently lists the 128GB Mew drive for $32.99. Susan Park, VP of consumer product management at Sandisk, noted that these iconic and powerful Pokémon were chosen for their enduring appeal, allowing fans to carry their memories wherever their next adventure takes them.
