Metro 2033 Redux becomes the second official game with DLSS 5

Metro 2033 Redux has received native NVIDIA DLSS 5 (Neural Rendering) support via its Next-Gen Update released on October 22. This makes it the second official title to feature the technology, following NBA 2K27, which debuted it in September.

Implementation details

The integration was spotted by Renan Maniero, who noted that the game's folder contains the latest DLSS DLL matching the version used in NBA 2K27. Players have also confirmed the appearance of a DLSS-NR (Neural Rendering) option within the graphics settings. The same update reportedly includes Metro: Last Light Redux.

Notably, developer 4A Games omitted DLSS 5 from the official patch notes, only mentioning standard DLSS alongside AMD FSR and 4A TSR. The Next-Gen Update also brings 4K textures, improved PBR materials, Screen Space Global Illumination (SSGI), uncapped frame rates, and spatial audio. However, the developers clarified that ray tracing was not included in this specific update.

Technical context

Unlike standard DLSS Super Resolution, Neural Rendering utilizes AI to modify lighting and material appearance based on the rendered image. This feature requires GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs or RTX Spark systems. Early player reports suggest that enabling DLSS 5 can incur a substantial performance cost, with results varying based on the specific GPU and configuration.

Metro 2033 Redux has arrived ahead of two previously announced DLSS 5 integrations: Hogwarts Legacy (scheduled for November 5) and Where Winds Meet (late November). NVIDIA claims this updated Neural Rendering model is twice as fast as the version released in September.

The Metro Redux Next-Gen Update is free for existing owners on Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. Console versions and the Windows Store update are slated for release on October 29.
