MBC Signs Three-Year Deal to Broadcast LCK Finals on TV

MBC announced a three-year contract with Riot Games to air LCK finals live on television until 2027. The deal follows the successful broadcast of the 2025 final between Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports, which marked MBC's first-ever coverage of an LCK championship.

The 2025 broadcast was a milestone for South Korean television, introducing the League of Legends esports scene to a wider audience. The positive reception confirmed that the tournament could evolve into premium content appealing to multiple generations. Building on this success, MBC and Riot Games have agreed to continue their collaboration through 2027.

The 2026 final is scheduled to begin on Sunday at 14:00 local time. MBC considers this slot its "prime time," traditionally reserved for major sports events like the KBO baseball league. The venue for the 2026 championship will be the KSPO Dome in Seoul, with the finals match taking place on September 13.

LCK officials expressed gratitude for MBC's support in expanding the game's reach. Lee Jin-hoon, General Director of LCK, noted that MBC has created an opportunity for the league to connect with more fans. He emphasized that the partnership helps introduce LoL esports to a broader audience.

MBC plans to leverage its experience from 2025 to enhance viewer engagement. The broadcaster intends to assemble a commentary team capable of explaining the game's nuances to newcomers while maintaining high production standards for existing fans. Ahn Hee-nam, Head of Sports Planning at MBC, stated that the channel aims to present LCK as family-friendly premium sports content accessible to all generations.
