Mario Kart World adds SNES courses and Knockout Tour routes in free update
A free update for Mario Kart World is now available on Nintendo Switch 2, introducing Ver. 1.8.0 with significant new content.
The latest patch brings classic tracks from the original Super Mario Kart to the game's competitive modes. Players can now select ten iconic courses, including Choco Island, Vanilla Lake, and Ghost Valley, for use in VS Race and Online Play. These tracks retain the original layout where driving over question mark panels allows players to pick up items, faithfully recreating the experience of the SNES era.

In addition to the classic tracks, the update expands the Knockout Tour with two new rally routes. The first, Propeller Rally, connects Acorn Heights and Airship Fortress. The second, Turnip Rally, links DK Pass and Shy Guy Bazaar. These routes become accessible after completing at least one Knockout Tour rally. Nintendo has confirmed that more routes are planned for future updates.

Social play options have also been enhanced with the addition of Spectator Mode for group sessions via Online Play or LAN Play. This feature allows up to two players to watch races and battles without participating. Spectators can freely switch between drivers to follow the action and check real-time standings at any time.

The update also introduces a new filter system within Photo Mode. When accessing the pause menu, players can now apply various filters to their screenshots, enabling them to create unique and stylized photos of their favorite moments on the track.
