M80 defeat 6666 in Roman Imperium Cup VIII opener
M80 survived a scare against 6666 to win their opening match at Roman Imperium Cup VIII, closing out the series 2-1 in the upper bracket quarterfinals.
The American roster entered the playoffs with a high-seed signup, facing a Ukrainian opponent ranked 174th in the VRS standings. M80 started the series on the CT side of Ancient, where 6666 held them to a 6-6 scoreline before winning the map 13-10.
M80 responded on their pick of Inferno, converting a 9-3 halftime lead into a 13-6 victory. Josh "JBa" Barutt led the team with 16 kills on the map, building on his 21-frag performance in the first map.
With the series tied, M80 took the final map on Dust2. Starting on defense, they held an 8-4 edge at the interval and closed the map 13-6 to secure the series win. Fritz "slaxz-" Dietrich delivered a standout performance on the final map, recording 22 kills, five deaths, and a 2.05 rating.
M80 will face Iberian Soul in the upper bracket semifinal at Roman Imperium Cup VIII tomorrow at 01:30 PM.
