Katana Kaji Simulator to Get Demo on October 9
Developer SENSE SHARE has announced that the Japanese swordsmith simulator Katana Kaji will receive a playable demo on October 9. The demo will be available on Steam.
Set in Kyoto during the Bakumatsu period, Katana Kaji is a simulation game focused on the traditional art of forging Japanese swords from tamahagane steel. Players take on the role of a swordsmith, carefully observing the color of heated steel and the intensity of the forge to master the craft.
The demo will feature several essential stages of the forging process, including:

- charcoal preparation;
- heating and folding the steel;
- shaping the blade;
- clay coating (tsuchi-oki);
- quenching and sharpening.
A standout feature of the gameplay is the creation of hamon patterns. Players will witness how the clay coating applied to the blade results in distinct patterns after the quenching and sharpening stages. The final appearance of the hamon will vary depending on the steel's condition and the temperature during quenching.

The demo also includes an "appreciation mode" to examine the finished sword in detail. Additionally, players can customize their workshop by arranging forge equipment, furniture, and materials, allowing for a choice between workspace efficiency and aesthetic layout. Future updates and the early access version are expected to introduce more forging techniques.
Katana Kaji is also scheduled to participate in the Steam Next Fest, running from October 19 to 26.
