Intel LGA1954 May Support Multiple CPU Generations

Intel may be planning a longer upgrade path for its upcoming LGA1954 desktop socket. A presentation slide shared by wnxod claims the platform will support multiple processor generations after Nova Lake-S, potentially including Razor Lake and Hammer Lake. The slide reportedly comes from an Intel partner in China rather than Intel itself, so these plans are not officially confirmed.

Intel has already confirmed that Nova Lake-S uses LGA1954. As reported last week, Intel’s own Design-In Tools website listed an “LGA1954 NVL-S Interposer” for its Gen5 VR Test Tool. This provided the first direct Intel reference connecting the socket with the desktop Nova Lake platform.

Nova Lake-S 28-core CPUs reportedly launch first

The new slide provides more details about the expected rollout. Nova Lake-S is reportedly scheduled to enter mass production in Q4 2026, while the first 28-core processors would launch in Q1 2027. The 52-core models are listed for later in 2027.

The slide also mentions Intel’s 900-series motherboard platform and bLLC cache configurations reaching up to 288 MB. This is consistent with earlier leaks pointing to 144 MB for single-compute-tile processors and up to 288 MB for dual-tile models. Previous coverage also showed configurations ranging from 28 cores with 8 P-cores, 16 E-cores and four LP E-cores to 52-core dual-tile designs.

LGA1954 reportedly designed for more than Nova Lake

The more interesting part is the claimed upgrade path. The slide says LGA1954 is intended to support “multiple generations of upgrades” and suggests users could keep one motherboard for several CPU generations. Razor Lake and Hammer Lake are mentioned after Nova Lake, with the roadmap extending beyond Q4 2027.
