Huawei shelves global AI chip rollout
Huawei has decided to shelve its global rollout of AI chips. The primary driver behind this move is the massive domestic demand within China, which currently outpaces the company's production capabilities.
Focus on domestic market and Atlas architecture
Rather than pursuing international expansion, Huawei is redirecting its resources to meet the needs of Chinese customers. Simultaneously, the company is showcasing the capabilities of its Atlas-based computing systems. Reports indicate that clusters comprising 15,488 chips can scale to reach a performance of 120 EFLOPS.
To compete with NVIDIA solutions, these systems leverage optical networking. This optical interconnect approach allows for efficient scaling of computational power and minimizes latency in inter-node data transfers, which is essential for training large-scale AI models.
