GTA VI reportedly requires PS5 firmware 14.10, leaving current jailbreak users behind
According to backend data from the PlayStation Store tracked by PlayStation Game Size, Grand Theft Auto VI reportedly requires PS5 system software version 14.10.00.00 or newer. If these reports are accurate, it presents a significant hurdle for the homebrew community.
The Firmware Gap: GTA VI vs. Relapse
The issue arises because PS5 firmware 14.10 sits just above the range supported by the recently released Relapse jailbreak. The project's documentation specifies support for firmware versions ranging from 7.00 to 13.60, covering both PS5 and PS5 Pro systems. This creates a dilemma for users who intentionally stay on older firmware to utilize emulators or other homebrew software: updating to play GTA VI would mean losing access to the current Relapse environment.
Currently, there is no public support for Relapse on firmware 14.10. Technical insights from community members, such as Sonic-Iso, suggest that the hypervisor exploit was patched in this version because root-0 NPT no longer maps the hypervisor's own physical memory.
Sony's Update and Release Timeline
Sony began rolling out the 26.06-14.10.00 system software update in early October. While the official changelog highlights security fixes and stability improvements without explicitly mentioning Relapse, the technical implications suggest the exploit has indeed been addressed.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. With PS5 preloading set to begin on November 12, the homebrew community has just over a month to find a workaround before the game's launch.
