GMKTec Launches Two MoDT Laptops: NEO-X1 and NEO-X1 Pro with Ryzen 9 9955HX(3D) and RTX 50-Series GPUs

GMKTec has announced the availability of two new laptops, the NEO-X1 and NEO-X1 Pro, built on a unique Mobile-on-Desktop (MoDT) platform. This architecture allows for the use of mobile-grade components in a desktop-like chassis. The lineup features two distinct configurations: the NEO-X1, powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti, and the higher-end NEO-X1 Pro, which steps up to the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D and a GeForce RTX 5070.

Distinguishing Features Between Models

The primary difference between the two systems lies in their central processing unit (CPU) and graphics card. The base model, NEO-X1, is equipped with a 16-core Ryzen 9 9955HX (Zen 5 architecture on TSMC 4 nm) and an RTX 5060 Ti featuring 8 GB of GDDR7 memory. Conversely, the flagship NEO-X1 Pro receives the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, which includes an additional layer of L3 cache totaling 96 MB (bringing the total to 128 MB), paired with a more powerful RTX 5070 equipped with 12 GB of GDDR7.

The manufacturer notes that the Ryzen 9 9955HX(3D) can operate in three power modes: 54 W, 85 W, and 160 W, with a peak thermal design power (TDP) of up to 170 W. This flexibility allows users to manage heat output and energy consumption based on workload requirements.

Shared Specifications and Build

Despite the differences in their core components, both systems share an identical chassis and MoDT platform. The internal cooling solution consists of two fans on top and one fan on the bottom to cool the CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage. Both models include integrated graphics via the Radeon 610M (2 CUs running at 2200 MHz), which can serve as a fallback or for driving built-in displays.

Power is supplied by an integrated SFX power unit rated at 850 W with an 80 Plus Gold certification. Both systems come pre-installed with Windows 11 Pro, though Linux/Ubuntu installation is supported.

Ports and Connectivity

The front panel provides access to two USB-A 2.0 ports, one USB-C (USB 3.2 Gen1), a 3.5 mm audio jack, and a power button with white LED illumination. The rear panel offers a more extensive array of connections: two USB-A 2.0 ports, two USB-A 3.2 Gen2 ports, one USB-C (USB 3.2 Gen2), an HDMI 2.1 port, a DisplayPort 1.4, a 2.5 Gbit/s Ethernet port, and external antenna connectors for the Wi-Fi 7 module.

The discrete GPUs support modern display standards: the RTX 5060 Ti features one HDMI 2.1 and one DisplayPort 1.4, while the RTX 5070 offers three DisplayPort 2.1b ports and one HDMI 2.1, enabling support for up to four simultaneous displays.

Pricing and Availability

Both models are available for pre-order via the official GMKTec e-shop, with shipments expected to begin in early September. The base NEO-X1 is priced at 1,999.99 euros, while the more powerful NEO-X1 Pro carries a price tag of 2,699.99 euros.

It is worth noting that while the NEO-X1 Pro is marketed with 64 GB of RAM in its selection options, the technical specifications list the included memory as 32 GB DDR5-5600 (2x 16 GB). GMKTec has clarified this discrepancy separately.
