Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara Details

The return of Jin Sakai marks a significant crossover moment for the Ghost franchise. As the hero of Ghost of Tsushima, Jin is being integrated into the world of Ezo with his model updated to match the visual fidelity of Ghost of Yōtei. Sucker Punch Productions stated that their animation and character art teams worked to keep the character faithful to his original design while applying necessary upgrades. Jin will be one of four playable characters in Most Wanted, bringing with him all four of his signature stances from Ghost of Tsushima. This allows players to exploit enemy weaknesses using the same tactical depth that defined the previous entry. In addition to his katana, Jin starts with a Sticky Bomb and a hankyu (short bow). His Ultimate ability is the “Dance of Wrath” skill, which targets multiple enemies and disarms them, while his Kill Streak is the iconic Ghost Stance, allowing him to terrify nearby enemies and eliminate a limited number of them in a single hit.

Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted is described by the developers as a spin on the roguelike genre. It is a single-player combat survival mode where players choose from four characters and accept bounties with escalating difficulty. The core loop involves completing runs to earn perks and upgrades, building out a character’s power set over time. The studio emphasized that the mode is designed to feel like an extension of Ghost of Yōtei’s core combat systems. The goal is to take the familiar weapons and mechanics and turn them into a fresh experience that encourages experimentation with different characters and builds to find the most effective loadout.

The gameplay structure begins with selecting a bounty from a bounty board. Each bounty features a different member of the Yōtei Six, but reaching them requires navigating through waves of enemies and minibosses. As players finish each wave, they unlock perks that help create a powerful build to eventually take on the final boss of the selected bounty. Bounties can be replayed at increasing difficulty levels, culminating in the hardest bounty against Lord Saito himself. Outside of runs, players earn Mon, a currency used to unlock new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms, and character unlocks. Any cosmetics earned through playing Most Wanted are also unlocked in the main game, allowing players to wear them during Atsu’s original quest for vengeance or in the new story expansion.

Beyond Jin Sakai, the other three playable characters are Atsu, Oyuki, and Nagato. Atsu, the default starting character, uses dual katanas and two Ghost Tools: Metsubushi (Blinding Powder) and a Blind Bomb. Her Ultimate is “Call of the Pack,” which summons two wolves to take down nearby enemies, and her Kill Streak is Onryō’s Howl, which terrifies all nearby enemies and forces one to flee. Oyuki fights with the kusarigama, kunai, and the tanegashima (rifle). Her Ultimate is “Shadow Killer,” which unleashes smoke to allow her to quickly assassinate two nearby enemies. Her Kill Streak is Shadow Shinobi, which summons a Nine Tails ally to fight alongside her and execute their own assassinations for a limited time.

Nagato uses the yari (spear), tanzutsu (pistol), yumi (long bow), and hankyu (short bow). His Ultimate is “Gambler’s Mark,” which targets two enemies and fires a guaranteed headshot, and his Kill Streak is Blast Arrow, which refills his Concentration and grants an explosive arrow. The developers encourage players to try all four characters, as each brings a different approach to taking down enemies. The real way to create a unique build in Most Wanted is by selecting perks. As players progress through a run, they frequently select between new perks including weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parries, and survivability. These perks are the cornerstone of crafting the perfect build and lead to exciting surprises as players find the challenge or unexpected value that comes from mixing and matching them.

Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara

In addition to the Most Wanted trailer and Jin Sakai reveal, Sucker Punch Productions released a new look at Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara during State of Play Japan. This narrative expansion is split between two periods of Atsu’s life: her time on the mainland in the massive Battle of Sekigahara, and the present day. In the Sekigahara segment, players will learn about Atsu’s history with Nagato, a key figure from her past who fought alongside her.

In the present day, Nagato has arrived in Ezo and is wanted by the Vipers, outlaws loyal to the Snake who are left leaderless after his death. The Vipers are described as a group of vicious poachers who have taken over the Ashoro Foothills, a previously unseen area of Ezo that was once teeming with wildlife and has now been left devastated. Atsu must reluctantly team up with Nagato to find a close ally who has been taken from her by the Vipers. In the Ashoro Foothills, players will encounter new enemy types, new heavy weapons to wield, new mythic tales and abilities, new armor sets and cosmetics, and much more.

Pricing and Availability

For those who already own Ghost of Yōtei, the Complete Edition Upgrade is available for pre-order for $14.99. This grants access to Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted and Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara on October 1, as well as instant access to all in-game content previously included in the Ghost of Yōtei Digital Deluxe Edition, including the Charm of Hokkyokusei. Pre-ordering by September 30 also includes an early unlock of the Sakai Armor for Atsu to wear on October 1, without having to unlock it by playing Most Wanted first.

For new players, Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition is available for purchase digitally for $69.99. This provides instant access to the original Ghost of Yōtei game, the online co-op mode Ghost of Yōtei Legends, all content in the Ghost of Yōtei Digital Deluxe Edition, the Charm of Hokkyokusei, and access to Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara upon their launch on October 1. The Complete Edition also includes new photo mode stamps, additional cosmetics for New Game Plus, and new Trophies for both expansions. Purchasing digitally by September 30 includes the early unlock of the Sakai Armor. The physical edition of Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition will launch on October 1.

Additionally, a free patch for Ghost of Yōtei is coming on October 1 for all owners, regardless of whether they purchase the Complete Edition upgrade. This patch, available via v.2.0, unlocks the free Beauty of Yōtei mode, which allows players to browse the beautiful environments of Ezo and explore them in Photo Mode. It also includes new tracks for Watanabe Mode, a new option to keep an armor set’s appearance while using a different set’s stats, and a new high contrast accessibility option. The patch is scheduled for global release on October 1, 2026, and October 2, 2026, in some territories including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. An internet connection and account for PlayStation are required.

Sucker Punch Productions expressed excitement about celebrating Ghost of Yōtei’s one-year anniversary with the launch of the Complete Edition. The studio invited players to share their Photo Mode creations and best Most Wanted builds, highlighting the community aspect of the new content. The integration of Jin Sakai and the new narrative expansion represent a significant expansion of the Ghost universe, offering both new gameplay mechanics and deeper story elements for fans of the series.
