Two 12V-2x6 connectors, but only one is used: Galax unveils RTX 5080 HOF Extreme

Galax has announced the GeForce RTX 5080 HOF Extreme, an unusual custom model from its premium Hall-of-Fame series. While the card features a robust power delivery system and dual 12V-2x6 connectors, its maximum power draw remains only 40 W above NVIDIA's reference specifications.

Design and Power Delivery

The most striking feature of the RTX 5080 HOF Extreme is its two 16-pin power connectors. Unlike the RTX 5090D HOF OC LAB XOC, where dual connectors are used to provide extra current for extreme overclocking, this design focuses on cable management flexibility. The connectors are placed on opposite sides of the card, allowing users to choose the most convenient orientation for their build. The unused port can be hidden behind a magnetic cover.

In terms of power consumption, the card operates in two modes via a Dual-BIOS system. The Gaming mode stays within the 360 W reference limit, while the OC mode allows for a maximum draw of 400 W. Clock speeds vary accordingly: the GPU reaches a boost clock of 2,805 MHz in overclocked mode, compared to 2,655 MHz in Gaming mode.

Technical Specifications and Cooling

The card is built on a custom white PCB featuring a 20+4-phase power delivery system, complete with a digital PWM controller, specialized HOF coils, and eFuse protection. Thermal management is handled by a large vapor chamber and eight nickel-plated heatpipes. The cooling solution consists of three 102 mm axial fans and an additional 92 mm fan mounted on the back of the PCB. A Hyper-Boost switch is also included to manually increase fan speeds.

Measuring 347.5 × 158 × 79.1 mm, the RTX 5080 HOF Extreme is a substantial card. In China, it is priced at 19,999 Yuan (approximately $2,995), positioning it significantly above standard RTX 5080 models. The package includes a GPU support bracket, a 3x 8-pin to 12V-2x6 adapter, and an extension cable. Galax recommends a minimum 850 W power supply. It remains unconfirmed whether this specific model will be released outside of the Chinese market.
