Frontier Developments Announces New Disney IP Game

Frontier Developments has entered into an agreement with Disney to develop and publish a new title based on the entertainment giant's intellectual property. The Cambridge-based studio will fully fund and produce the game, leveraging its established expertise in the creative management simulation (CMS) genre.

The announcement marks a significant expansion of Frontier's portfolio, which currently includes the Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, and Jurassic World Evolution franchises. The studio is also currently working on an unannounced Planet game based on its own intellectual property. By partnering with Disney, Frontier aims to apply its simulation design principles to one of the world's most recognized brands.

Jo Cooke, CEO of Frontier Developments, stated that the collaboration reinforces the company's strategy of developing and nurturing world-class creative management simulation game franchises. Cooke emphasized that the mission of the new project is to connect a passionate creative community of players with an iconic brand, expressing anticipation for what the studio's teams will create with this opportunity.

At the time of the announcement, no further details regarding the game's title, release date, or specific platforms were provided. The project represents a new direction for the studio, which shifted its strategic focus toward CMS games in 2023. The company noted that this genre delivers stronger and more predictable returns, a strategy that has contributed to its recent financial performance.

Frontier Developments recently reported its second-highest annual revenue, which increased by 16% to £104.8 million. Operating profit rose by 44% to £19 million, exceeding the previous record of £15.9 million from the previous fiscal year. The studio credited this growth to its strategic focus on CMS games, which accounted for 90% of its revenue in the most recent fiscal year. The company's ongoing strategy involves delivering one CMS title per year to support long-term, sustainable growth through high-quality, evergreen game franchises.
