Fortnite Now Allows Published Islands with LLM Characters
Epic Games enabled publication of Fortnite islands using LLM Conversations on July 30, 2026. With v41.30, the feature has left Experimental: UEFN characters can listen to a player, generate a response in real time, and speak it aloud.
What Changed
Epic provides consistent voices and personas for 36 Fortnite characters. For a subset of Fortnite IP characters, the voice and persona are locked so creators cannot rewrite an established identity. Other NPCs can be given a role, knowledge, and speaking style within the tool's rules.
Availability still depends on shared capacity, and Epic says rate limits may be introduced when required. Creator Portal analytics now help island makers see how frequently players start these conversations.
Processing and Safety
Epic's documentation identifies Google Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite for speech processing and response text, with ElevenLabs Eleven v3 producing the voice. Epic says player audio is not stored or used for training; a transcript is retained only when a conversation is reported.
Conversations currently support English. Access for children and cabined accounts depends on parental controls, and players can report an individual response. Sources: Epic Games; Epic Developer Community.
