FaZe and The MongolZ Eliminated at FISSURE Playground 3 Group Stage

FaZe and The MongolZ have exited the group stage of FISSURE Playground 3 in Suzhou following defeats in their lower bracket matches.

The tournament's most recognizable names stumbled on September 9, as both teams fell to opponents they were expected to handle. FaZe, coming off a surprising 2-0 loss to Alliance in the upper bracket earlier that day, faced magic in the lower bracket. The series was tightly contested, with FaZe managing to level the score at 1-1 thanks to a 13-10 victory on Dust2. However, they could not hold their ground on Ancient, losing in overtime 16-14. The decider on Cache went the full distance, ending in a 19-16 defeat for the American squad after 35 rounds.

The pattern across the three maps highlighted a specific vulnerability: while Twistzz performed well enough to secure individual wins, his teammates struggled to match his level when the series was on the line. Neityu, in particular, contributed significantly less than required from a player in his position, with a negative +/- of -15 and an ADR of 62 compared to the team average.

The MongolZ faced a stiffer challenge against 5star, a team ranked 112th in the VRS standings. The match was not close, with 5star sweeping the series 2-0. They secured wins on Inferno (13-9) and Nuke (13-11). The story of the series belonged to rate, whose star fragging ability made him unplayable on Inferno before remaining a constant threat on Nuke. For The MongolZ, only cobrazera competed at the level the match demanded, but he could not carry five players on his own.

The elimination for The MongolZ was particularly painful given their roster changes. tikuak and DarkMeister, two young players brought in to signal a new direction, struggled significantly against a side they should have been able to handle. This was not an isolated incident; it marked the second consecutive match where these additions failed to find their footing, leaving China without a single series win at the event.

With these results, the group stage bracket has shifted. The winners of the upper bracket quarterfinals will now face each other in the semifinals, while the defeated teams continue their fight in the lower bracket to keep their tournament hopes alive.
