Evil Geniuses to disband after 28 years
North American esports powerhouse Evil Geniuses (EG) has announced its disbandment. Alongside Team Liquid, the organization has been a cornerstone of the industry, but it will officially cease all esports and daily operations starting November 2, 2026.
The announcement was made via the organization's social media channels. Founded in 1999, EG has built a massive legacy across multiple titles, including StarCraft II, Overwatch, Halo, PUBG, Rocket League, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Rainbow Six Siege, League of Legends, and Dota 2.
The club's history is marked by significant achievements, most notably winning The International 2015 in Dota 2 by defeating CDEC to claim the Aegis of Champions. The organization also maintained a presence in League of Legends, including a run at the 2022 World Championship, and most recently secured a victory at Valorant Champions 2023 in Valorant.
CEO Chris Deapoloio cited significant headwinds in the esports industry as the primary reason for the decision. He noted that despite efforts to restructure and stabilize the business, the combination of limited sponsorship opportunities and rising costs for top-tier tournament participation made continued operations unsustainable.
Effective immediately, all players are free to negotiate with other organizations. For the Valorant roster, the ability to sign with new teams will begin once the current season concludes on November 2.
