ETERNAL ANIMA: Details on Marvelous' New RPG

Marvelous has shared new information regarding their upcoming RPG, ETERNAL ANIMA, previously known as

The story is set in a water-submerged world called Glaterra. The survivors reside in the celestial "White City" under the rule of the God-King, a regime that maintains order by prohibiting progress and evolution. The protagonist, Wade, a former member of the security force, discovers the ability of "Read Thought"—the power to perceive memories stored in objects. This revelation leads him to escape the city and embark on a journey across four lost continents.

The core gameplay revolves around the theme of "inheritance and evolution." A standout feature is the combat system based on "future prediction." Players can see a timeline of all upcoming actions, knowing exactly how much damage will be dealt or received. Since there is no randomness in combat outcomes, the challenge lies in strategic decision-making: deciding whether to focus on breaking enemy defenses or using defensive maneuvers to build up BP (Boost Points) for powerful ultimate skills.

According to the developers, the narrative and mechanics are deeply intertwined. Actions taken in the past can physically alter the state of the world in the present. For instance, saving a continent in a historical era might result in new allies or different environments appearing in the modern timeline. Additionally, the "Wisdom Inheritance" system allows Wade to acquire new jobs and skills by absorbing the memories of ancient artifacts.

ETERNAL ANIMA is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on March 5, 2027.
