EmuDeck 2.7 expands Steam Machine support with 1080p and 4K presets
EmuDeck has released version 2.7, shifting focus from the Steam Deck to the broader SteamOS ecosystem, including Steam Machine systems. The update introduces 1080p and 4K output presets for TV-connected setups and automates controller configuration via a new mapping feature.
Enhanced Support for Steam Machine and Home Setups
Since Steam Machine and other Linux-based systems are typically connected to televisions or monitors rather than small handheld screens, EmuDeck now includes default configurations targeting 1080p and 4K output. This simplifies the process for users looking to achieve high-resolution clarity on large displays without manual per-emulator adjustments.
A significant technical addition is the AutoMap feature for SteamOS and Linux. This tool automatically configures controllers for emulators that lack native controller detection. The feature supports up to four players and is compatible with various hardware, including Steam Controller, Xbox controllers, DualSense, 8BitDo, and gamepads for other handheld PCs. Configurations are applied upon game launch, ensuring seamless play when reconnecting external controllers.
Emulator Updates and Feature Improvements
Version 2.7 has transitioned to the new "RetroAchievements" API, enabling Dolphin to support the service. Additionally, resolution selectors have been integrated directly into EmuDeck for several emulators, including PPSSPP, Xemu, Vita3K, Azahar, and PrimeHack.
For SteamOS users, the update includes automated SteamDeckGyroDSU installation for Ryujinx (though Steam Controller gyro support remains under investigation). Other updates include improved RPCS3 configurations with a new ISO parser, as well as fixes for melonDS, RMG, Xemu, and Supermodel. Note that older launchers for Citra, Lime3DS, and Suyu have been removed from the supported list.
The Windows release addresses issues with the EmuDeck Compressor launch and includes a fix to refresh the Start Menu cache by restarting explorer.exe to ensure icons appear correctly. Furthermore, Dolphin and PrimeHack will now download the latest releases instead of previously fixed older versions.
