ECL S52 Cup Day 2: Chicken Coop dominate EMPIRE, Overtake Sector edge NuTorious
The ESL Challenger League Season 52 Cup 1 moved into its upper semifinals on Day 2 without any upsets, as Chicken Coop secured a dominant 2-0 victory over EMPIRE, while Overtake Sector survived a nail-biter to defeat NuTorious in the only three-map series of the day.
Chicken Coop cruised to a convincing 2-0 win against EMPIRE, capitalizing on their opponents' poor map picks. The match began with a bleak 0-13 loss for EMPIRE on Dust2, where the visitors' lowest-rated player managed a 1.26 rating despite a valiant effort from ayaneuu, who recorded 23 kills on Inferno but could not prevent the defeat.
The decisive factor was Drop's standout performance, who posted a 1.98 rating on Counter-Terrorist side and secured a crucial 3K in round nine to close out a tight 2v4 situation. Chad 'Crisp' Bredeson led the way with 36 kills and a +18 kill differential, while Alexander 'REKMEISTER' Flynn added 25 kills on Terrorist side to seal the series.
In the other major matchup, Overtake Sector defeated NuTorious 2-1 in a tense encounter. Fern 'intra' Hak was the standout performer for the winners, clutching two 1v3 rounds on Ancient to secure an early 13-5 victory and finishing with 22 kills overall.
The series remained competitive until Cache, where NuTorious managed a comeback to steal the lead at 11-10 thanks to a strong defensive half from Gavin 'Fruitcupx' Norman. However, Overtake Sector regained control in the final rounds, ending the match without going to overtime.
NuTorious's Cameron 'cmrn' Longman was their brightest star with 57 kills and a 1.30 rating, while Overtake Sector's Jason Garcia matched him with 55 kills and a +6 kill differential to claim the series.
Elsewhere on Day 2, Voca breezed past FarmVille 2-0, and Marsborne edged out Iowa Stormboar in a close 2-1 series. The tournament now heads to Day 3 with the lower bracket matchups set: EMPIRE faces New Legends, Iowa Stormboar takes on Villainous, Elusive meets NuTorious, and FarmVille plays Zomblers.
