ECL S52 Cup 3 Invites: Only 15 of 16 Spots Filled

ESL has announced the invite list for the upcoming ESL Challenger League Season 52 Cup 3 in Counter-Strike 2. While notable squads such as regain, Iowa Stormboar, and Overtake Sector are set to compete, the tournament will feature only 15 teams instead of the full 16-team roster.

This marks the first time since the introduction of ECL Cups in August 2025 that North America has failed to provide enough teams to fill the event. The shortage is primarily due to scheduling overlaps. Teams including Liquid, M80, and Voca declined their invites to attend LAN events in Europe. Additionally, participation is complicated for NRG, Wildcard, Without a Roof, Marsborne, Unreal Nightmare, and Elusive due to the FRAG University event.

The NSTLGA LAN in Texas also contributed to the lower turnout; the CEO of NuTorious cited this event as the reason for their decline, a sentiment shared by LAG. Interestingly, regain and Zomblers accepted their invites despite being registered for the NSTLGA LAN. Other declines came from disbanded rosters or temporary mixes, though Shimmer—who also declined the previous cup—was the only stable squad to opt out without a clear scheduling conflict.

The confirmed participants for ECL S52 Cup 3 are: Chicken Coop, Desi Boyz, regain, Overtake Sector, Villainous, Iowa Stormboar, Zomblers, DETONATE, EMPIRE, Club 333, Wanted Goons, FarmVille, Reign Above, New Legends, and ex-Overknight.
