Dota 2 Bug with Reality Rift Fixed, Server Flood Protection Added
The developers of Dota 2 have implemented fixes for a bug involving Reality Rift and introduced new server-side protections against command spam. Analyst Denis "sikle" Lerman discussed these updates, highlighting their role in maintaining game stability.
The Reality Rift issue occurred when the distance between a hero and the target approached zero, causing the character model to break. This glitch could be exploited to disrupt abilities with area-of-effect or damage components. According to sikle, this was particularly relevant in Ability Draft, where heroes might interact with Reality Rift in unintended ways. To resolve this, developers added a fallback direction check for zero-distance scenarios.
Additionally, new console variables, sv_net_client_message_process_time_ms_*, have been introduced to limit the processing of client messages and commands. These measures are designed to mitigate abuses involving excessive requests, such as scripts intended to crash the server. sikle noted that the current limits should be sufficient for legitimate players while effectively targeting malicious activity.

Valve has also expanded match network telemetry. Servers will now continue to send performance reports after a match concludes, allowing developers to track how and where such abuses occur. Meanwhile, the The International 2026 banner and the option to purchase tournament capsules have been removed from the main Dota 2 page.
