Dota 2 Peak Online Players Drop from One Million to 341K
The peak online player count for Dota 2 dropped from 1.04 million to 341,000 on the night of October 28. By midday, the number recovered to 701,000, following a period where the MOBA consistently surpassed the one million concurrent users mark for several consecutive days.
The recent surge in popularity began on October 10, when Dota 2 exceeded one million players for the first time in a month. Following that, the player count mostly stayed between 800,000 and 900,000, before hitting the million mark daily starting October 24.
The previous increase coincided with a Steam client update, during which activity in custom modes saw a decline. While there has been online speculation that Valve might have blocked approximately 300,000 bots used for farming in custom modes, this theory remains unconfirmed.
The game's all-time peak remains over 1.2 million users, a record set back in March 2016.
