Dice Tavern: Farkle Roguelike Launches September 8
Dice Tavern: Farkle Roguelike, a dice-building strategy game developed by Cavi Studio and published by HARRISONWORLD, launches on PC on September 8, 2026. The title blends the classic dice game Farkle with roguelike deck-building mechanics, allowing players to construct high-scoring builds through synergies, rigged dice, and strategic risk management.
The game is built around the traditional dice game Farkle, which has historical roots dating back to the 1600s. In standard Farkle, players roll six dice and score points based on specific combinations. The core tension lies in deciding whether to bank points or risk rolling again to achieve a higher score. If a roll fails to produce a valid combination, the player suffers a Farkle, losing all unbanked points for that round. This risk-reward dynamic forms the foundation of the gameplay experience.
Dice Tavern: Farkle Roguelike expands on this base by introducing roguelike elements similar to titles like Balatro. Players select from a roster of characters, each with unique abilities and starting rules. The narrative follows Elena, a young woman who runs a dice tavern in a northern village, as she and other characters challenge six taverns and thirty powerful opponents to reach the capital. The full release features eleven playable characters, thirty-five types of dice, forty-three synergies, and a fifteen-stage rule expansion system called Decrees.
Core Mechanics and Build Construction
The gameplay loop revolves around constructing a dice deck to outscore opponents within a limited number of rounds. Unlike traditional Farkle, which is often played against other humans, this game pits players against AI opponents with specific target scores and special abilities. Failure to meet the target score results in a game over, with no carry-over of assets, reinforcing the roguelike structure.

Build construction is driven by four main components: dice, badges, custom parts, and items. Dice can be modified with weighted lead to bias rolls toward specific numbers or coatings to add bonuses when certain faces appear. Badges provide passive effects, such as increasing the point value of specific rolls or enhancing multipliers during rerolls. Synergies are triggered by specific combinations of dice, offering powerful boosts to scoring or altering game rules.
Economy management is a critical aspect of the game. Funds are earned by defeating opponents, and the shop offers random items that can be purchased or refreshed for a cost. Players must balance the desire for ideal build components with the limited budget available, as excessive spending on shop refreshes can lead to financial constraints.
Gameplay Experience and Strategy
The early stages of the game, such as the Rural Tavern, are relatively easy and serve as a tutorial for the core mechanics. However, the difficulty increases significantly in later stages, such as the Town Tavern, where opponents have higher target scores and more disruptive special abilities. One effective strategy involves using the One Point Supreme badge, which increases the point value of rolling a 1, combined with dice that favor the number 1. This build allows for consistent scoring and reduced risk of a Farkle.

As players progress, they encounter bosses with abilities that counter specific strategies. For example, the boss of the City Tavern has a skill that halves the score of single dice, which can severely impact builds focused on single-number scoring. To overcome such challenges, players may need to adopt high-risk, high-reward strategies, such as the Single Score Chain build. This approach involves locking in consecutive numbers (1 through 6) in sequence to trigger massive multipliers, a tactic that requires precise control over dice rolls through the use of rigged dice and custom parts.
The game also features a Endgame Challenge mode, where players face randomly generated high-difficulty scenarios with strict constraints. This mode tests the player's ability to adapt their strategy on the fly and make optimal decisions under pressure. The full release also includes Decrees, a system that introduces new rules and challenges after completing the main campaign, adding depth and replayability to the experience.
Technical Features and Availability
Dice Tavern: Farkle Roguelike is fully compatible with Steam Deck, making it suitable for portable play. The game is available for purchase on PC, with a launch sale offering a discount from the standard price of 1,500 yen to 1,200 yen from September 8 to September 22, 2026. The demo version is currently available for download, allowing players to experience the core gameplay loop and build construction mechanics before the full release.

The game appeals to fans of roguelike and deck-building games, as well as those who enjoy strategic risk management and high-scoring challenges. The combination of logical build construction and the unpredictable nature of dice rolls creates a unique gameplay experience that balances frustration with the satisfaction of achieving a well-executed combo.
