CS2 Operation Hydra Returns announced — six maps, mission pass, and new Premier season
Valve officially announced Operation Hydra Returns for Counter-Strike 2. The operation launches May 20, 2026 and runs until September 1, 2026.
Six new maps
The operation adds six maps to the competitive rotation — four returning classics from CS:GO and two brand-new layouts designed exclusively for CS2's engine:
- Seaside (new) — a coastal map set in a Mediterranean port town, designed for close-range engagements
- Agency (returning) — rebuilt with CS2 geometry and updated textures
- Canals (returning) — reworked layout to address the mid-chokepoint issue from CS:GO
- Pitstop (new) — a racing venue map with asymmetric team spawns
- Breach (returning) — largely unchanged from its CS:GO version
- Militia (returning) — fan favourite, fully rebuilt in Source 2
Mission Pass — 50 tiers
The Operation Pass costs $14.99 and unlocks 50 tiers of rewards: operation-exclusive weapon skins, agents, stickers, patches, and graffiti. Free players have access to the first 10 tiers. All six maps are available to free players — the pass is purely cosmetic and mission-progression gated.
Premier Season 4 kicks off
The operation coincides with the start of Premier Season 4. Rating resets partially — players retain 50% of their Season 3 rating as a starting floor. The ranked format remains unchanged but Valve has adjusted the calibration algorithm to reduce placement match variance.
Specialist Missions
Weekly specialist missions are back: time-limited challenges that reward operation coins, XP, and exclusive drops not available in the tier system. The hardest tier — "Hydra Elite" — requires completing 40 missions and grants a knife skin from the new "Hydra" collection.
