Capcom is planning a massive Resident Evil crossover
Capcom has turned Resident Evil remakes into a highly successful formula. Following the successful overhauls of the second, third, and fourth installments, the studio faces an inevitable question: what happens when the list of classic games worthy of a full remake runs out?
In an interview for an anniversary book, as reported by IGN, executive producer Jun Takeuchi revealed that the studio has been laying the groundwork for a major event. He spoke of a planned "crossover" that will occur once the two separate tracks—the original game timelines and the remake series—finally intersect.
According to Takeuchi, preparations for this moment have been underway since the era of Resident Evil Village. The team began incorporating elements originally intended as fan service, such as references to the "Umbrella" Corporation, the character Spencer, and the return of Raccoon City. The overwhelming positive response from players led Capcom to lean further into these narrative threads, a move reflected in Resident Evil Requiem.
Currently, the studio has a limited number of classic titles left to overhaul before reaching the "modern era" established by Resident Evil 7. Based on current rumors and upcoming schedules, the roadmap includes Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6, and potential projects involving Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0 slated for 2027–2028.
If Capcom's vision comes to fruition, fans can expect more than just polished versions of old stories. Instead, they may witness a massive collision of different versions of the universe, where the events of the remakes and the original games begin to weave into a single, complex narrative knot.
