Blood of Dawnwalker director “exasperated” by 120 fps demands

The director of the upcoming vampire RPG Blood of Dawnwalker, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, has expressed frustration regarding player demands for 120 fps performance. In an interview with Eurogamer, he noted that such high frame rates are not a priority for this specific genre.

Genre-specific expectations

According to Tomaszkiewicz, players often complain about frame rates even when the game runs smoothly at 70 or 90 fps. He emphasized that Blood of Dawnwalker is not a competitive shooter, where ultra-high frame rates are essential for gameplay success. For a single-player RPG, he considers performance exceeding 60 fps to be "above good."

However, the Rebel Wolves team remains focused on optimization. The director stated that they are committed to improving performance to meet the high standards expected by the community.

Hardware requirements and context

The technical demands for the title are significant. The official system requirements specify an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 to achieve 4K resolution at Ultra settings, and even this high-end setup is expected to target 60 fps.

This discussion follows Tomaszkiewicz's previous tenure at CD Projekt Red, where he worked on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. While The Witcher 3 targeted 30 fps on PS4, the rise of high-refresh-rate monitors has shifted player expectations toward much smoother motion, a factor the developers are actively addressing.
