ASUS Unveils XG Core: A Compact Radeon RX 9060 XT eGPU with 16GB VRAM
ASUS is targeting the growing market of handheld gamers and mobile creators with a new, compact external graphics solution. The company has unveiled the XG Core Radeon RX 9060 XT LP, a pint-sized enclosure designed to provide a significant performance boost to laptops, mini PCs, and gaming handhelds without the bulk of a traditional desktop setup.
The XG Core Radeon RX 9060 XT LP 16GB GDDR6 is built around AMD's latest-generation RDNA 4 architecture. Unlike massive desktop enclosures, this unit is specifically engineered for portability, measuring just 144 x 117 x 39 millimeters (5.7 x 4.6 x 1.5 inches). This small footprint makes it a much more viable option for users who want to upgrade the graphical muscle of a portable device like the ASUS ROG Ally X or the Microsoft-collaborated ROG Xbox Ally X series without carrying a heavy, full-sized chassis.
Connectivity and Performance Use Cases
Connectivity is handled via USB4, offering up to 40Gbps of bandwidth, with support for Thunderbolt 3 systems as well. While this allows for a wide range of compatible devices, users should keep in mind that even with USB4, there is an inherent bandwidth trade-off compared to a direct PCIe connection inside a desktop PC. The enclosure also includes built-in HDMI and DisplayPort outputs for external monitors.
While gaming is the primary focus, ASUS is also positioning the XG Core as a tool for productivity and AI-driven workloads. The company specifically highlighted its utility for running large language models (LLMs) through applications such as ComfyUI, LM Studio, and Ollama, thanks to the 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM.

Software and Availability
For users who prefer fine-tuning their hardware, the device is compatible with ASUS GPU Tweak III. This utility provides monitoring and adjustment options for GPU clocks, memory frequency, voltage, and advanced fan control profiles.
Despite the reveal, ASUS has not yet disclosed the pricing for the XG Core Radeon RX 9060 XT LP, nor has a specific release date been announced. Given current market trends, consumers will likely have to wait for more concrete details regarding its retail availability.
