ASL Season 22: Terran Secured Semi-Final Spot
The semi-final bracket for ASL Season 22 is taking shape, with the first matchup already confirmed as a Terran derby. Following the elimination of all Protoss players, the remaining quarterfinals will determine whether the semi-finals will be dominated by a single race or remain balanced.
The first two matches of the quarterfinals resulted in back-to-back victories for the Terran players, effectively securing their spots in the top 4 and setting up a Terran vs Terran showdown.
In the first series, Yoo Young-jin "Rush" secured a comeback victory against Lee Young-han "Shine". Although Lee took an early lead using Mutalisks, Yoo Young-jin stabilized the game with a combination of ground troops and Valkyries, eventually overwhelming his opponent in the final map.
In the second match, Lee Jae-ho "Light" defeated Kim Jung-woo "Effort" 3:1. After dropping the first game, Lee regained control from the third map onwards, utilizing superior army numbers to dominate the Zerg player.
The focus now shifts to the remaining matchups. On September 28, a Zerg vs Zerg clash will take place between Park Sang-hyun "Soma" and Lee Young-dong "JD". Soma, who won both Season 20 and Season 21, is currently chasing a historic third consecutive title. Notably, Soma used his placement swap right during the Round of 16 to avoid facing Lee in an earlier stage.
The final piece of the puzzle will be decided on September 29 in the match between Shin Sang-moon "Reta" (Terran) and Kim Min-chul "Soulkey" (Zerg). A victory for Shin would result in a semi-final lineup of three Terrans and one Zerg, while a win for Kim would create a balanced 2-2 split between the races.
