Apple Unveils Foldable iPhone Duo and New iPhone 18 Pro Series
Apple has officially unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, alongside the latest iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. The new device is scheduled for release on October 23, with pre-orders opening on October 16.
The iPhone Duo starts at a price of ¥364,800 (approx. $2,400 USD) for the 256GB model, with storage options ranging up to 2TB. While technically arriving later than competitors like Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series, Apple has integrated significant hardware and software refinements into its design.
Physically, the device features a titanium alloy frame and an organic EL panel that maintains a consistent 1.4:1 aspect ratio whether open or closed. When unfolded, it offers a massive 7.6-inch display suitable for gaming; when folded, the 5.4-inch screen shifts iOS controls to the right side for easier one-handed use.
Key software features include split-screen multitasking and the ability to use the device in an L-shape or Lambda shape as a stand for video calls or media consumption. The front camera is now an under-display FaceTime sensor, eliminating the need for a notch or punch-hole cutout.
Under the hood, the iPhone Duo runs on the new A20 Pro SoC, manufactured using a leading-edge 2nm process. This chip boasts up to 40% faster GPU performance compared to the previous generation and features a doubled Neural Engine for enhanced Apple Intelligence capabilities.
The accompanying iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models also utilize the new A20 Pro chip, offering up to 20% faster CPU performance in their Super Cores. Battery life has been extended, with the Pro Max capable of up to 45 hours of video playback.
Camera upgrades include variable aperture technology on the standard lens for better depth control and lighting adaptation. The lineup includes four color options: Black, Silver, Glacier, and Burgundy, available starting September 18 for pre-order.
