zont1x: 'I will not be able to be a top five player'

Spirit have claimed the title at BLAST Open Porto, securing back-to-back victories for the first time since last year's IEM Cologne and BLAST Bounty Season 2. The Ukrainian squad defeated MOUZ 3-1 in the grand final, with zont1x delivering a standout performance throughout the event.

Following the victory, zont1x sat down with NatTea, voo, and Mauisnake to discuss the team's recent evolution. Reflecting on the consecutive trophies, he acknowledged the emotional weight of the achievement while noting his personal fatigue from extended travel and time away from home. "I'm a little bit tired of playing and just being away from home, so I don't really feel much, at least for now," he stated, emphasizing that the sacrifices made by the roster are ultimately validated by these results.

Despite the current success, zont1x remains focused on the immediate future rather than long-term status. He pointed out that the next major competition, Katowice, is scheduled for a month later, meaning the current title will not define the team's standing in October. "It will be a whole other story," he explained, highlighting the transient nature of competitive rankings in Counter-Strike 2.

When comparing this matchup against MOUZ to their previous loss at Bounty, the player identified a lack of energy and communication as the primary factors in the earlier defeat. "We didn't connect to the server, in my opinion. We just had no energy for no specific reason," he recalled. In contrast, the current form has seen the team playing with significantly more cohesion and intent.

zont1x also addressed his personal legacy and mechanical limitations. Acknowledging that he may not reach the top five or even top twenty in individual rankings, he aims for a career defined by collective success rather than individual accolades. "I know that with my game intelligence, I would not be able to be like a top one player, top five player, whatever," he admitted. His goal is to maximize the number of tournament wins, citing the style of ropz as a model for high impact without constant individual spotlight.

The interview also covered the coaching structure following the return of hally. S0tF1k and hally have divided their responsibilities, with S0tF1k focusing on micro-level demo analysis and hally handling macro-level game planning alongside Magixx. This division of labor allows the team to maintain high preparation standards during long tournament stretches, such as the 45-day period mentioned by zont1x.

Regarding map-specific improvements, particularly on Mirage, zont1x explained that the team constantly rotates their focus. While Ancient is currently their statistically strongest map, the team regularly shifts attention to weaker maps like Mirage or Nuke as new issues arise. This iterative process ensures that no single map remains a persistent weakness, even if it means temporary fluctuations in performance on other maps.

Finally, zont1x discussed his aiming philosophy, preferring body shots over headshots. He explained that while he should aim for the head in all situations, his role and mechanical capabilities make body aiming a more effective strategy for him. "I understand that I cannot suddenly just be the best player mechanically," he said, noting that his current style allows him to generate sufficient impact within the team's framework.
