Wardogs devs end Season 2's team-specific bonus experiment
The developers of the multiplayer sandbox FPS WARDOGS have scrapped a controversial social experiment introduced in Season 2. After only one day of implementation, Bulkhead cancelled the special XP and cash bonuses exclusively available to players in the Lonestar faction (the Blue Team).
The experiment aimed to rehabilitate the reputation and win rates of the Lonestar faction by incentivizing players to join them. However, the initiative backfired. Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer admitted the mistake in a video, stating: "We were wrong. We fucked up."
While the developers expected the 5% cash and 2.5% XP bonuses to be negligible for the average player, high-level players—or "tryhards"—managed to accumulate thousands of extra war dollars. This unintended windfall threatened to disrupt the game's progression balance. Additionally, the experiment caused matchmaking issues: players would frequently abandon servers once the Lonestar slots were filled to seek the faction elsewhere, leading to delayed matches due to insufficient player counts on other teams.

Although the financial and experience incentives have been hotfixed, Bulkhead intends to continue balancing the faction through other means. Adjustments to spawn locations on the Bakuriani map have already shown success in improving the faction's win percentages.
