Valve's Steam Frame pricing starts at $1,059

Valve has announced the pricing and availability for its third major hardware product, the Steam Frame VR headset. The base 256GB model will retail for $1,059, while the 1TB version is priced at $1,200.

Total costs may increase with additional accessories. A $29 power supply is required for standalone operation, as the Steam Frame can function either as an independent headset running SteamOS or as a device tethered to a PC. An ergonomic accessories kit is also available for $59.

These prices place Valve at a significantly higher price point than Meta, whose 512GB Meta Quest currently retails for $349. Industry factors contributing to high VR hardware costs include a sudden shortage of computer memory, driven by exclusive deals between AI firms and major manufacturers like Samsung and SK Hynix. Additionally, Valve's pricing reflects its decision not to subsidize hardware, a strategy it avoided during the Steam Machine era.

To support the ecosystem, Valve is also rolling out developer kits for those looking to create content for the Steam Frame, accessible via the Steam Partner dashboard.
