T1 and Hanwha Life Esports Face Do-or-Die at Worlds 2026
The Swiss Stage of Worlds 2026 has passed its halfway mark. Following three rounds, only Rounds 4 and 5 remain, where survival is on the line. For the LCK, while Gen.G Esports and Dplus KIA have already secured quarterfinal spots with 3-0 records, T1 and Hanwha Life Esports must fight for survival in Round 4.
Hanwha Life Esports, MSI winners and one of the tournament favorites, now face the threat of an early exit. After a strong 23-minute victory over Top Esports in their opener, they fell to Gen.G and suffered an upset against IG, dropping into the 1-2 pool.
Following their heavy defeat against Gen.G—a matchup between the top two teams in the power rankings—their performance against IG was concerning. A combination of self-destructive aggression and a decline in individual form resulted in a performance unworthy of one of the LCK's top teams.
In this do-or-die match against G2 Esports, the key to victory will be which team can stabilize their gameplay and adapt to the meta first. While G2 Esports are the undisputed rulers of Europe following their LEC title, they have also struggled during the Swiss Stage.
For T1, a victory in Round 4 would secure a spot in the quarterfinals. While a favorable draw saw them defeat LOS and CFO, questions remain regarding their performance level. Specifically, a reverse defeat against Dplus KIA revealed a concerning lack of late-game focus.
T1's Round 4 opponent is Movistar KOI. Although they are the lowest-ranked team in the power rankings, T1 cannot afford complacency; Movistar KOI already pulled off a shock victory against BLG in Round 1, and T1 has frequently stumbled against LEC teams in recent international tournaments. To advance, T1 must avoid unnecessary errors in macro execution and prevent games from dragging into the late stages where they lose focus.
