Sega and Netflix announce adaptations of Sonic, Crazy Taxi, and Stranger Than Heaven

The first project in the pipeline is a Crazy Taxi film, written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, known for the The Naked Gun reboot. The production team will include Sonic franchise producers Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara.

Stranger Than Heaven is set to become a live-action crime film, with Toru Nakahara serving as producer. For the Sonic franchise, Netflix plans to launch a new animated series aimed at a pre-school audience, joining the existing Sonic Prime series.

Sega president and COO Shuji Utsumi stated that the partnership aims to deliver storytelling that honors the unique qualities of each title. Brandon Riegg, VP of nonfiction and transmedia at Netflix, added that the projects span three different eras of the Sega catalogue, aiming to celebrate existing fandoms while reaching new audiences.

These upcoming adaptations will join Netflix's growing lineup of video game-based content, which includes Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Devil May Cry, and upcoming live-action projects for Assassin's Creed and Gears of War.
