SanDisk Optimus 5100 PCIe 4.0 SSDs Hit Retail: Up to 7,100MB/s Read Speeds
SanDisk has officially brought its new SanDisk Optimus 5100 series of PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs to select retailers in Akihabara. Aiming for a balance between high-speed performance and energy efficiency, the lineup includes four different capacities ranging from 500GB to 4TB, featuring the brand's 8th-generation BiCS QLC 3D CBA NAND flash.
The SanDisk Optimus 5100 series is designed to leverage the PCIe Gen4 x4 interface, utilizing SanDisk's 8th-generation BiCS QLC 3D CBA NAND. To manage the inherent characteristics of QLC (Quad-Level Cell) memory, SanDisk has implemented a redesigned low-power architecture and integrated their nCache 4.0 technology. According to the manufacturer, these features are intended to facilitate seamless multitasking and faster file copying by optimizing data handling.
Performance and Capacity Breakdown
The performance metrics for the Optimus 5100 vary depending on the selected capacity. While the entry-level 500GB model offers sequential read speeds of up to 6,600MB/s and writes of 5,600MB/s, the higher-capacity models step up the throughput significantly.
- 500GB: 6,600 MB/s read / 5,600 MB/s write (660K IOPS read / 1.1M IOPS write; 300TBW)
- 1TB: 7,100 MB/s read / 6,700 MB/s write (1M IOPS read / 1.3M IOPS write; 600TBW)
- 2TB: 7,100 MB/s read / 6,700 MB/s write (1M IOPS read / 1.3M IOPS write; 900TBW)
- 4TB: 6,900 MB/s read / 6,700 MB/s write (900K IOPS read / 1.1M IOPS write; 1,200TBW)

In terms of pricing, the series is currently available in Akihabara-based shops with retail prices ranging from ¥18,670 to ¥106,680, depending on the capacity chosen.
