SanDisk launches NAS 600 SATA and NAS 800 NVMe SSDs for storage servers

Sandisk introduces two new SSD series tailored for NAS deployments: the classic SATA-based NAS 600 and the high-performance NVMe NAS 800, both launching in September.

The NAS 800 NVMe SSD targets prosumers and small businesses with M.2-2280 drives supporting up to 7.68 TB capacities. Leveraging PCIe 5.0 x4, it delivers sequential read speeds of up to 14.9 GB/s and write speeds around 13 GB/s, with IOPS exceeding 2 million for random 4KB transfers. The drive features a controller with its own DRAM cache and utilizes Sandisk’s latest BiCS8 TLC 3D CBA NAND technology, where the memory array is bonded directly to the CMOS logic wafer.

In contrast, the NAS 600 SATA SSD focuses on compatibility with traditional 2.5-inch form factors and legacy 3.5-inch bays via adapters. It uses a standard SATA interface with read speeds capped at 560 MB/s and write speeds between 505 and 520 MB/s. This series relies on TLC 3D NAND without an explicit DRAM cache, relying instead on the Host Memory Buffer (HMB) feature for caching.

Both models come with a standard five-year warranty limited by Total Bytes Written (TBW). The NAS 800 offers significantly higher endurance, ranging from 1,750 TBW for the smallest model up to 14,000 TBW for the largest. Pricing starts at $309.99 MSRP for the 960 GB NVMe drive and $179.99 MSRP for the 500 GB SATA unit.
