Sakura Wars 6 plot exists: SEGA eyes modern platforms and new projects
A major interview in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has shed light on the future of the steampunk strategy RPG series Sakura Wars. As the franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary, creator Oji Hiroi and SEGA producer Akira Nishino shared insights regarding a potential sixth installment and the revival of classic titles.
The most striking revelation is that a plot for Sakura Wars 6 already exists. Oji Hiroi stated that he developed the story during previous discussions about a new entry. He teased a character named Black Swan, who is in cryogenic hibernation, though he clarified that the existence of a plot does not confirm the game is in active development. Hiroi noted he would consider prototyping the idea if commissioned and funded. He also mentioned a stylistic choice: if a sequel is made, it would use the numeral “6” instead of the Roman numeral “VI”.
Regarding the legacy of the franchise, Akira Nishino confirmed that SEGA aims to bring the original games—from the first title through Sakura Wars V: So Long, My Love—to modern platforms. While he noted that various circumstances make this a complex task, the company is actively working toward a solution.
Nishino also expressed his desire to see the narrative arc of New Sakura Wars (2019) reach a definitive conclusion, stating he does not want his vision for the story to remain merely a
