Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time joins GOG Game Preservation Program
After Ubisoft unceremoniously cancelled the long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, publisher GOG.com stepped in to save the day. The original 2003 title has been added to GOG’s Game Preservation Program, receiving a suite of technical improvements to ensure compatibility with modern hardware.

Since its launch at the end of 2024, GOG’s Game Preservation Program has revived over 300 classics, including recent additions like POSTAL, Trials of Mana, Metro 2033, and Thief Gold. Now, the legendary Ubisoft platformer joins this list.

The original game is available on GOG.com at a 70% discount (£2.59). Key technical enhancements focus on resolving compatibility issues and adapting to modern displays:

  • Native widescreen and ultrawide support: the game now runs correctly at all modern resolutions and aspect ratios.
  • Automatic camera scaling: the field of view (FOV) automatically adjusts based on your monitor’s aspect ratio.
  • FPS limiter: a built-in tool allows for smooth frame rate limiting.
  • In-game overlay: a lightweight interface provides access to further adjustments directly within the game.
  • Compatibility wrapper: a lightweight layer resolves incompatibilities with modern hardware.

The full list of preserved games and the specific story behind this version can be found on the official GOG.com website. The program continues to expand, offering users a seamless way to play classics without needing emulation or complex community patches.
