OnePlus 16 Debuts With 1TB Storage, Fresh Colors and Interstellar Light
OnePlus has officially opened pre-bookings for its latest flagship, the OnePlus 16. The device arrives with high-end specs, including a 1TB storage option, and introduces a unique light-based notification system. However, its global availability remains uncertain as the company continues to shift its focus away from Western markets.
Design and the Interstellar Light Effect
The OnePlus 16 retains its signature raised square camera module, defying recent rumors of a return to a circular design. The phone is available in three colorways: Dark Forest (a classic black), vibrant Martian Masterpiece (light orange), and Tomorrow's Starlight. The latter features a specialized silk glass finish specifically engineered to repel fingerprints.
The Tomorrow's Starlight variant introduces the Interstellar Light Effect, a functional lighting system embedded in the rear glass. It features segmented sections capable of dynamic illumination, alongside decorative star icons and galactic coordinates. This system acts as a notification matrix, pulsing for incoming calls, messages, charging status, or real-time game indicators.
Memory and Performance
OnePlus is streamlining its memory configurations by completely eliminating the 8GB RAM option. Users can now choose between 12GB or 16GB of DDR6 memory, paired with internal storage options ranging from 256GB up to 1TB (non-expandable).
While not yet officially confirmed, the device is widely expected to be powered by Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 silicon. The display, provided by BOE (X4 model), will feature ultra-narrow bezels and a base refresh rate of 165Hz, which can scale up to 185Hz for compatible gaming titles.
Battery and Imaging Specs
The rumored hardware specifications suggest a massive leap in power and photography:
- Battery: A rumored 9,000mAh cell, a significant increase over the 7,300mAh capacity of the previous generation;
- Charging: 100W wired and 50W wireless charging support;
- Camera System: A 200MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 200MP periscope telephoto lens.
Despite the impressive hardware, the OnePlus 16 is likely to be a China-exclusive release. This aligns with the broader strategy of its parent company, Oppo, which has been scaling back its product launches across North America and Europe.
