NVIDIA releases GeForce 621.12 hotfix to fix RTX 50 video freezes
NVIDIA has released the GeForce 621.12 hotfix driver to address video playback freezes and black screen issues affecting GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards and RTX Spark systems. The update targets bugs introduced in the recent 621.01 driver release.
Fixes for video playback and Unreal Engine 5.8
The issue, which surfaced following the 621.01 driver launch six days ago, primarily affected users playing video via Chrome, Edge, or VLC. Owners of GeForce RTX 5080 and other RTX 50 models reported that their displays would occasionally go black for several seconds. NVIDIA acknowledged the problem after receiving user complaints and requesting diagnostic logs.
In addition to video stability, the 621.12 hotfix includes several other critical fixes:
- Resolved crashes in Unreal Engine 5.8 when Ray Lighting Mode is set to Hit Lighting (this fix applies to more than just the RTX 50 series).
- Fixed display corruption on RTX Spark systems when using "StarTech" Thunderbolt 3 to HDMI 2.0 adapters.
- Addressed intermittent screen flickering on MSI N16 Flip laptops.
Driver status and availability
It is important to note that GeForce 621.12 is an optional beta driver. It has undergone a shorter validation process compared to standard WHQL-certified releases. NVIDIA has stated that these fixes will be incorporated into the next official Game Ready Driver update.
The driver is available for Windows 10 and Windows 11 x64 systems. A separate Windows 11 ARM64 package is also provided for RTX Spark devices. Users experiencing playback issues can download the hotfix directly from the NVIDIA support website.
