NVIDIA GeForce RTX 6060 may not release until 2029, says leaker
Reports suggest that the mid-range NVIDIA GeForce RTX 6060 might not arrive until 2029. According to the frequent leaker Kepler_L2 on the NeoGAF forums, NVIDIA is allegedly postponing its lower-end next-gen cards due to supply shortages, prioritizing high-end and professional products instead.
Supply shortages and manufacturing priorities
The rumor suggests that NVIDIA tends to delay lower-end GPUs when manufacturing resources, such as TSMC silicon wafers or GDDR memory, are scarce. In such scenarios, the company focuses its production capacity on high-margin, high-end, and professional-grade hardware.

This pattern has been observed before. During the 2020 cryptocurrency mining boom, NVIDIA prioritized the launch of high-end RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 cards, leaving budget-conscious gamers to wait months for the RTX 3060 and even longer for the RTX 3050. If these reports are accurate, the RTX 60 series might debut in 2028 with premium models like the RTX 6090 and RTX 6080, with the entry-level segment following in 2029.
Generational gaps and performance expectations
If the 2029 release date holds true, it would represent the largest generational gap in NVIDIA's history. The wait between the RTX 5060 and the RTX 6060 could span up to 44 months. For context, the gap between the RTX 4060 and RTX 5060 was 23 months, while the shortest gap occurred between the GTX 660 and GTX 760, which was only nine months.

Kepler_L2 also commented on the expected performance, suggesting that the RTX 6060 is unlikely to match the graphical capabilities of the PlayStation 6. If the PS6 delivers approximately 40 TFLOPS of peak theoretical compute power, the RTX 6060 would likely perform similarly to an RTX 5070 Ti, falling well behind the RTX 5080. However, real-world gaming performance remains heavily dependent on driver optimizations and technologies like DLSS, making theoretical TFLOPS an incomplete metric for actual gameplay.
