Nagoshi Studio dissolves following cessation of NetEase funding
Nagoshi Studio, led by industry veteran Toshihiro Nagoshi, is officially dissolving. According to the official government gazette (Kanpō), the decision was finalized during a shareholders' meeting on October 31, 2026.
Established in November 2021 after Nagoshi's departure from SEGA, the studio operated with financial backing from NetEase Games. However, recent reports regarding the cessation of funding from NetEase had already cast doubt on the studio's future. Following these reports, development updates for their upcoming title had effectively stalled.
The studio's primary focus was GANG OF DRAGON, which was announced at The Game Awards 2025. The title had generated significant buzz due to its photorealistic graphics, its setting in Tokyo's Kabukicho district, and the casting of actor Ma Dong-seok in the lead role. With the studio's dissolution, the future of the game remains uncertain.
The collapse of Nagoshi Studio marks a significant shift for the developer behind hits like Yakuza, Daytona USA, and Super Monkey Ball. What began as a high-profile partnership between a legendary creator and NetEase Games has ended, leaving the ambitious GANG OF DRAGON in limbo.
