MobyGames lets developers claim game credits via new service
The video game database MobyGames is introducing a new feature that allows developers to claim credit for their work on games and customize personal portfolio pages. This functionality will be available through a new premium subscription tier.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, MobyGames Professional launched in beta in June, with a full 1.0 version expected this autumn. The service enables developers to verify their involvement in specific titles through a verification process, allowing them to build professional portfolio pages on the site.
The verification process involves a human-driven review to ensure users are who they claim to be. However, this does not grant developers the ability to edit the actual structural credit listings or game data. According to product manager Reece Denzel, the core verification methodology remains unchanged since Atari acquired the platform in March 2022. Verified users will be able to edit certain personal details that are then listed as coming from a confirmed source.
Notably, the feature does not allow developers to retroactively add themselves to credits if they were removed from a game's credits after the fact. This remains a sensitive issue in the industry, as seen in recent discussions regarding missing credits for staff on Nintendo titles and various high-profile releases.
The MobyGames Professional tier is priced at $14.99 per month, or $11.99 per month with an annual subscription. A 45-day free trial is currently available for new users.
