Konami gives away original Castlevania for free to celebrate 40th anniversary
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Castlevania series, Konami is giving away the original 1986 game for free on the App Store and Google Play. The classic title, which first debuted on the NES, will be available for free download until October 24, 2026.
In addition to the free mobile release, a series-wide sale is underway. On the PlayStation Store, the Castlevania Anniversary Collection is 80% off until October 7, while the Dominus Collection is 50% off. The Advance Collection and the Requiem: Symphony of the Night & Rondo of Blood bundle are both available at a 70% discount.
Steam users can access similar deals from September 24 to October 1. During this window, the Anniversary Collection is 80% off, the Dominus Collection is 50% off, and the Advance Collection and the Lords of Shadow series (including Ultimate Edition and Mirror of Fate HD) are discounted by 70% and 80%, respectively.
The celebrations lead up to the release of the next mainline entry, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, scheduled for October 15 on Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Developed by Evil Empire, the game follows Rose, the daughter of Trevor Belmont, as she battles through 1499 Paris and Dracula's castle. A demo is set to arrive on October 1 for most platforms, allowing players to complete the first chapter with progress carrying over to the full release. While most platforms will support 60FPS, the Switch version will run at 30FPS.
