At IFA 2026 in Berlin, Minisforum officially unveiled the MS-S1 Max-P495, a 3.5-liter mini-workstation built around AMD's Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 processor and 192GB of unified memory. The system is designed specifically for local AI inference and development, offering a compact alternative to multi-GPU server configurations for running large language models offline.

The primary differentiator of the MS-S1 Max-P495 is its memory architecture. While traditional AI development often requires purchasing multiple high-end enterprise GPUs to achieve sufficient video memory (VRAM), this mini PC leverages a unified memory design. Users can allocate up to 160GB of the system's 192GB LPDDR5X-8533 RAM strictly as graphics memory. This capacity allows for the execution of 70B+ parameter models and heavily quantized multi-hundred-billion parameter setups entirely on-device, without reliance on cloud services.

Processor and AI Performance

The system is powered by the Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 APU, which features a 16-core, 32-thread Zen 5 CPU. The processor operates at a base clock of 3.1GHz and boosts up to 5.2GHz. It includes a substantial cache hierarchy, comprising 16MB of L2 cache and 64MB of L3 cache, totaling 80MB.

For AI-specific workloads, the APU integrates a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of delivering up to 55 TOPS. The integrated graphics, identified as Radeon 8065S, utilize 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units clocked at up to 3GHz. When combining the capabilities of the GPU and CPU, the Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 can deliver a total of up to 131 TOPS of AI performance.

Thermal Engineering and Chassis Design

Managing the thermal output of a processor with a 120W sustained Power Profile (PPT) and 160W peak PPT within a compact 3.5-liter chassis requires significant engineering. Minisforum states that the unit features an aerospace-grade aluminum chassis to facilitate heat dissipation. The cooling solution includes a pure copper cold plate, six heat pipes, and dual turbine blowers. Additionally, the system utilizes phase-change thermal interface material to maintain performance during extended, heavy workloads.

"With a robust 120W stable PPT and 160W Fast PPT, our cooling system confidently handles intense workloads, translating extreme power into unwavering performance, not thermal throttling," Minisforum stated regarding the thermal design.

Connectivity and Expansion

Despite its small form factor, the MS-S1 Max-P495 offers a robust set of I/O options. The rear panel includes dual 10GbE LAN ports for high-speed networking. For peripheral connectivity, the system provides dual USB4 ports supporting 40Gbps speeds, Alt DisplayPort 2.0, and 15W Power Delivery. It also features dual USB4 V2 ports with 80Gbps speeds, Alt DisplayPort 2.0, and 15W Power Delivery. Additional ports include two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (10Gbps), an HDMI 2.1 FRL output, and a 3.5mm audio combo jack.

Internal expansion is equally comprehensive. The chassis houses a full-length PCI Express 4.0 x16 slot, allowing for the addition of discrete graphics or other expansion cards. Storage is supported via dual M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots, which can accommodate up to 16TB of total storage. The system supports RAID 0/1 configurations and features a slide-out chassis tray for easier maintenance. A reset hole on the rear panel allows users to clear the CMOS.

Modularity and Cluster Capabilities

The MS-S1 Max-P495 is designed for flexible deployment. The chassis can be positioned vertically on a desk or mounted horizontally in a standard 2U server rack enclosure. For users requiring even greater computational power, Minisforum offers the ability to daisy-chain multiple units using a master power header. According to the manufacturer, a dual-unit cluster with 192GB of memory per unit can run a 235B parameter model at a speed of 16 tokens per second.

Alongside the mini PC, Minisforum showcased the N5 Max-P495, a companion 5-bay AI Agent NAS. This device is capable of hosting up to 200TB of local storage, intended to serve as a private vector database and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) backend for AI applications.

Official pricing and availability dates for the MS-S1 Max-P495 have not yet been announced. Given the high capacity of the unified memory and the specialized nature of the hardware, the system is expected to be positioned in the premium segment of the mini PC market.
