Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2: 4K Display and Exceptional Battery Life

The Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 aims to be the ultimate hybrid for both entertainment enthusiasts and mobile professionals. With a stunning 4K display, long-lasting battery, and a robust metal chassis, it positions itself as a premium Android tablet. However, certain omissions in sensors and connectivity suggest that Lenovo has made specific trade-offs to maintain its competitive edge.

The second generation of the Yoga Tab Plus series shows significant improvements over its predecessor. The device features a more elegant, sturdy metal case that is larger yet lighter than the previous model, weighing in at 605g. Most notably, Lenovo has addressed the battery concerns of the high-end segment, delivering over 20 hours of continuous Wi-Fi usage—a feat few competitors can match.

Display and Performance

The centerpiece is the 13-inch IPS display, boasting a massive 4K resolution (3840 x 2560) and a 144Hz refresh rate. The panel is flicker-free (no PWM), making it ideal for long reading or viewing sessions. Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite provides ample performance for multitasking and heavy apps, ensuring a smooth experience on Android 17. While the chip is no longer the absolute latest, it remains a powerhouse for almost any task.

In gaming and heavy graphics workloads, the tablet manages around 43 fps at native 4K resolution. While it struggles to maintain a locked 60 fps in the most demanding scenarios, it remains highly capable for a tablet of this class.

Connectivity and Trade-offs

Lenovo has made some notable omissions: there is no fingerprint sensor (relying instead on 2D facial recognition) and no 5G or GPS support. Additionally, internal storage is capped at 256 GB UFS 4.0. However, Lenovo has listened to users by including a microSD card reader, allowing for expansion up to 2 TB, which significantly improves the device's long-term utility.

For productivity, the tablet supports a desktop mode, a dedicated stylus (Tab Pen Pro 2), and a keyboard cover with a touchpad. It also features cutting-edge Wi-Fi 7 support, ensuring extremely high-speed wireless connectivity in compatible environments.

Verdict

The Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 is an impressive multimedia powerhouse. Its combination of a high-resolution 4K screen, excellent battery life, and a premium build makes it a top contender for media consumption, provided you can live without GPS and a fingerprint sensor.
